Day 355: Ham Kimbap

Matt bought literally 100 sheets of gim earlier in the year and we are still slowly going through the first pack lol Lots of kimbap here.

We had ordered a ham a couple of weeks ago so we are going to try to eat that and free up space in the fridge if I want to go shopping Wednesday.

For lunch we had scrambled eggs, homemade biscuits and ham. Dinner with homemade fast “kimchi” and ham kimbap. So much ham!! I figure it all evens out eventually.

More French mysteries and I finished on weaving and started a small one to practice a new way to start. I got my new big loom but he forgot to include the pick up stick so I’m waiting on that before I start something big!

Day 354: Spaghetti and Meatballs

We are really getting close to a year of staying home and making all of our own meals save I think two sandwiches from the Italian market and H Mart sushi. I had to renew the hosting and website address for this site!

I’m still unable to get my dad in to be vaccinated. Maryland, despite being the richest state in the US is in the bottom five for the vaccine roll out. Hogan is such trash.

My new loom arrived!! It’s adjustable on the sides so I can make it taller (longer?) it’s a lot sturdier than the larger one I have now and the expansion is a great idea. If I really get into large weaves he even makes bigger ones and even ones that stand alone!

For lunch we had leftover sticky rice and fried eggs. Then for dinner we had spaghetti (actually angel hair, Matt had bought like six packs by mistake awhile back) and mini meatballs from the Italian store in homemade sauce. It made a ton so we can have it as a dinner another day too.

I think I will go to the supermarket this week. It will be nice to pick food out in person and spring stuff is on sale already!

One positive of all this is that my least favorite season, winter went by very quickly! It was nice not to have to worry about driving in the snow or being out in the cold. All of the days are a blur but at least it’s almost March.

I signed up for a CSA that is all produce from farms here in Baltimore City! I have to pick it up but it’s pretty close. It starts in May. Hopefully I will be vaccinated by then but I think they just leave it on a table for you so it’s no contact.

We watched some more of the French series Murder in… on Mhz. Each one is a different French speaking city. One was in Reunion Island which was very interesting.

Day 352: BAGELS

So spoiled today! We made sandwiches with turkey, aged provolone and capicola for lunch.

Then our order from Russ & Daughters arrived! It was $$$ but using gift money helped ease the pain. It has been so long since I’ve had a good bagel. We also got sable, nova, pickled herring and halvah. So good! It came with rugalach but it was oddly burnt. Everything else was perfection though! We froze some bagels and will have more for dinner tomorrow.

We watched Bloodhounds on Broadway (the 1950s version) on DVD.

The days are still going so quickly! The virus positive rate is low so I might return to in person shopping a little. I really missing picking out food and all we have is frozen and like a small ham. We don’t live near many grocery stores here in the city and I’m nervous about getting too much raw meat/seafood delivered. Maryland is doing horribly with the vaccine and Hogan hates Baltimore City so who knows when we might get it. Might as well get out before there is another wave.

Day 351: Mortadella Sandwiches

We needed some Italian ingredients so Matt went to the local Italian market and got groceries and sandwiches! Sandwiches someone other than us made! We got what they started calling the “Matt special”—mortadella, tomato, olive spread, aged provolone. So good. It’s funny because it was actually my order to begin with but he liked it and we ordered it so much in the before times and he was the one who’d pick them up after he had class that they started calling it after him.

For dinner we had some Italian bread, and leftover wild rice with collard greens topped by fried eggs.

We watched a couple of DVDs from Netflix. Kajillionare and Bill and Ted Face the Music what a combo! I felt like I wasted some hours there. At least they were both short. Miranda July had one movie we liked and then they’ve all been rough since.

Day 350(!): Sticky Rice with Chinese Sausage and Shrimp

I think I had soup for lunch? I don’t really remember! I remember having some tortilla chips in the afternoon so it couldn’t have been much.

For dinner Matt made steamed sticky rice with Chinese sausage, shrimp, Napa cabbage and dried mushrooms. It was sort of like the filling of the leaf wrapped sticky rice you get at dim sum. We had frozen shrimp and frozen Chinese sausage, Thai sticky rice and half a napa cabbage so it was a really easy meal to pull together with great results. We have great pot with a steamer insert which made perfect rice.

We watched a little of El internado: Las Cumbres on Prime. We had watched some of the original El internado years ago. The setting of this one is crazy and makes me wonder about the Spanish school system! A school with actual dungeons for detention and it’s in a monastery! No thank you!

Day 349: Fried Filet of Flounder

For lunch I had a can of soup and some popcorn. Pickings are slim around here! tomorrow Matt might go to the Italian market near us and pick up some parmesan and maybe some sandwiches and other goodies! It’s been a while since we’ve been and I’ve missed having Parmesan around for pizza and risotto. They have the best!

The positivity is around 4% here so I might go back to doing a in person store visit. I really miss shopping in person! They are still saying the new variants are easier to transmit but the rate is really low so I’m not sure how to reconcile those two things. I haven’t shopped in person since 12/9!

For dinner Matt made fried flounder, collards and wild rice pilaf. So good! The flounder was frozen but it is so thin it defrosted quickly.

We watched My Man Godfrey on Netflix DVD. Classic. Carole Lombard was a pip.

Day 348: Smoked Salmon & Deviled Eggs

We had some Scottish smoked salmon from our Whole Foods order so I had that on some crackers with red onions and capers and Matt had it on an English muffin.

Later Matt made some deviled eggs for snack. They were very bacon heavy!

For dinner we ran out of time and ended up making hot dogs and onion rings. Matt also sautéd some dandelion greens with mushrooms from our produce delivery but they were so bitter we couldn’t eat them! We like bitter greens too.

My husband’s aunt and uncle sent us a card and a check to get something fun for ourselves for Valentine’s Day! So nice of them! We ordered some goodies from Russ and Daughters. I can’t wait. I miss bagels so much.

We watched Los Spookys on HBO Max. Fred Armisen is a creepy man .

Day 347: Sesame Tofu with Broccoli

For lunch Matt made grilled cheese with leftover chicken, dill relish and red onion. I had the last few bites of chicken and biscuits for a snack (Matt eats breakfast, often Scottish oatmeal so he isn’t as hungry at lunch time as I am!)

For dinner Matt made sesame tofu with broccoli. It was sort of based on this recipe but made in a way that made more sense and was much more flavorful. It was very ugly but tasty!

We realized we are very low on rice! I just bought 15 lbs of sushi rice in early October and it’s almost all gone. We are very low on Jasmine and basmati too. I need to find a place that delivers because the store we normally go to for rice is closed.

We finished Kielergata. I really hope there is a new season! I predicted the ending but it was still great and the perfect opener to season two.

Day 345: Chicken & Dumplings

For lunch I had the leftover roasted vegetables from roasting the chicken earlier in the week leftover noodles and topped it with a fried egg. I smacked it in the eye.

Matt got off work on time so he made chicken and dumplings with leftover chicken and some buttermilk that was getting old. It was so good! We also finished off our fancy cheese.

We watched some more Kielergata and I warped my loom but I suddenly got a migraine and went to bed. I used to get migraines when I was a child but they stopped after college mostly until Thanksgiving 2019. I’m starting to track them and hope food isn’t a trigger. It wasn’t before but who knows.
