Today’s Matt’s birthday! We really wanted to get steamed crabs today but it was really cold and rainy.
There was a pop up bakery at the top of our street so I walked up and got a small sampling. I remember when there was a club that used to have a mobile police station in front of it there. Quite a change. They are opening up an actual bakery further down the main street so we wanted try some of their goods!
For lunch we got some Filipino food takeout. We haven’t had it in so long! I had the special pancit bihon and lumpia and Matt had some grilled pork.
Cinnamon roll snack! Then we had Indian takeout for dinner. They have the best lamb so Matt got that and I had the chili chicken. We missed Indian food we didn’t make ourselves so much!
Matt felt better so we had the quiche I made yesterday for dinner.
I also made some dip for my tinned fish Patreon subscribers.
We watched some CB Strike and High on the Hog. Love the idea of High on the Hog but the host is really awkward and the captions were strange. They weren’t accurate for the French or English. It was kind of insulting to the speaker and changed the meaning. Why did they do that?
Matt wasn’t sure how he’d feel for dinner so I went ahead and made the quiche for my lunch. It came out great! I used Ritz crackers as my crust and filled with salmon, spinach and feta (recipe here). We have a lot left so hopefully Matt will feel better tomorrow!
Tomorrow I want to make a cake for his birthday and some dip for my Patreon so easy meals tomorrow would be great.
Matt went to the Italian store and got bread and some roasted turkey so he had a sandwich for lunch and I had one for dinner.
I went to Aldi to get food for Matt’s birthday and the long weekend. I don’t miss doing the whole month shopping trips!
For lunch I made myself a salad with fake crab, kewpie mayo and cucumber.
Matt didn’t feel great so I had some the gyro meat, tomato, cucumber, feta and garlic sauce in a pita and he had some soup.
I poached some salmon to make quiche with tomorrow.
We watched Cruel Summer. Where is this going??
I finished the rug hooking kit! I really think I’ve had it like six years. I was always nervous to try it because it didn’t come with a lot of yarn and I didn’t know what I was doing. It was pretty easy though but counterintuitive, you pull the yarn up through the fabric with a shallow hook so you are basically working by feel. It’s similar to punch needle but with punch needle you are punching down.
For lunch I had some frozen shrimp and Matt had noodles and cottage cheese.
I found some repainted Herman Miller shell chairs on Facebook Marketplace yesterday and they were being sold in PA about an hour away. Lucky me when I contacted the woman she said they’d be near Baltimore today and could drop them off! They look amazing. Matt says they are too short but they are the same height as our old chairs.
For dinner I was going to make quiche but I sautéd kale from the CSA for it and it was so bitter! I’m glad I tasted it. We ended up making instant noodles with cabbage and the chicken I was going to put in the quiche instead.
Matt’s birthday is this weekend so I want to go shopping tomorrow and buy any groceries we need. He’s taking off Friday so if I can’t get anything tomorrow then I can still get it on Thursday. We actually still have a fair amount of food and I want to clear out the freezer some but he wants to smoke some brisket and I know we don’t have that.
Our fridge keeps getting water in the deli drawer and no where else. It must be a blocked line but I can’t see where it is coming from, the rest of the fridge is bone dry.
To celebrate a successful finish to a big project Matt was working on at work and my finishing my mother’s estate we took a day off cooking!
We got sandwiches at the Italian market for lunch and then got a sushi extravaganza from a sushi place we always wanted to try that’s across town. I saw on Yelp that they did a really great of packing sushi together so it was worth it.
It was so good!!
Then we had a double feature of Heartburn and Mystic Pizza. We’d never seen either before. Mystic Pizza was so cute!
